Renewal From All Sides: Experience a Mock Renewal Process Through Case Study and Policy Discussion

,
BCEC, Meeting Room 204A

Apply excellent renewal practices through a mock renewal process using a case study. Learn the ins and outs of charter school renewal, demystifying the process through the lens of all entities involved: the charter school leadership team and board members, the authorizing staff, and the school’s community stakeholders. Using common school performance criteria, unearth practical considerations when making renewal decisions, and determine how best to weigh equity when deciding whether a school should be renewed. Participants will experience a high-level charter school renewal presentation facilitated by an authorizer, a charter school leader, and a third party technical assistance support partner. Using a case study with real-life data, participants will break into three groups to prepare a renewal recommendation. Participants will collectively engage in a policy discussion to identify which policy considerations play a role in making a renewal recommendation and ultimately, an evidence-driven, charter school renewal decision.
